Providence Swedish is once again earns national recognition for environmental sustainability efforts

Practice Greenhealth is the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care. Providence Swedish is proud to be recognized for our excellence and growth in sustainable health care practices across the Central Puget Sound.
Sustainability is core to our mission, and we’re proud to share that our environmental stewardship efforts have earned Practice Greenhealth awards for our Providence Swedish facilities across the Central Puget Sound.
The recognitions included the Practice Greenhealth's Environmental Excellence awards, the organization’s highest honor for hospitals leading in sustainability performance and demonstrating comprehensive sustainability programs inherent to organizational culture.
Practice Greenhealth is the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care. Sustainability means looking at how our operations effect the health and safety of our environment as well as the health of our patients, staff, visitors, and local community.
Congratulations to all of our hospitals throughout Puget Sound for your recognition by Practice Greenhealth. We received nine awards in our region, including Greenhealth Top 25 awards, Greenhealth Leader awards and a Circle of Excellence Award for Energy.
Providence has also received Practice Greenhealth’s Top Health System Award, the organization’s highest honor, and one of only two awarded in the nation—reflecting the collective work of caregivers across our ministry to care wisely for our people, our resources and our earth.
Across the system, 33 hospitals earned 42 Practice Greenhealth awards, including five Top 25 recognitions for hospitals performing at the highest level nationally. Four of those five hospitals were in the Puget Sound: Providence Swedish's Ballard, Cherry Hill, First Hill and Issaquah campuses.
Why this matters
Environmental stewardship is part of how we deliver safe, reliable, high-quality care. When we reduce waste, improve energy use and limit harmful chemicals, we help:
- Create healthier spaces for patients and caregivers.
- Strengthen reliability during times of change.
- Protect the communities we serve today and for future generations.
