Caring in our Community
Providence and Seattle Sounders partnered with Renton School District (RSD)to address and improve youth mental health and wellness amongst its students. Some highlights:
- This year, the organizations made virtual therapy available for more than 15,000 RSD students.
- Work2BeWell, a mental health and wellness program focused on providing mental health resources and education for teens, parents and educators, provided five curriculum training sessions. The organizations executed six mental wellness-themed assemblies, small support groups and a mental health club.
- Five-hundred students attended the unveiling of a mini-pitch soccer field at Benson Hill Elementary. Watch the video.
- More than 250 students were served at a free sports physical screening event. Be sure to watch the video.
Swedish caregivers staffed August's free, two-day student athlete clinic sponsored by Providence Swedish and Sounders FC.
Throughout the season, Providence Swedish Rehabilitation and Performance Medicine provided Sounders players with sports medicine and medical care. This includes pre-season MLS player physicals and cardiac testing, medical staff and a stretcher crew for each home game; flu shots for all players and 65 front office staff; and medical care for all Sounders players and families.
The partnership with Seattle Sounders FC drives brand awareness for Providence and Providence Swedish. Providence and Providence Swedish branding is on all primary and training jersey kits, in stadium signage and social media. Providence achieved brand recognition through live events, televised events and various media platforms, amplifying both visibility and engagement.
Engaging Providence and Providence Swedish caregivers is an essential part of the partnership. This year, Sounders players Alex Roldan and Freddy Montero visited multiple Providence Swedish, Puget Sound, and Eastern Washington facilities to visit with patients and caregivers. Providence Swedish also hosted a live webinar to discuss mental health with Sounders player Freddy Montero. Many caregivers who consider themselves “superfans” participated in a contest.
The two organizations look forward to growing the partnership and its impact in the community next season. Go Sounders!
