For more than 100 years Swedish nurses have been there for us. And in the last two years, when we needed it most, they doubled down on that commitment. They adapted and innovated. They treated, comforted and consoled.
Now our community is returning the favor by being there for them. This Nurses Week we asked you to support them, and you answered the call through your philanthropic support. And every dollar will go toward sending those dedicated caregivers to workshops and retreats where they can process the trauma of the last two years and build skills for coping with stress, exhaustion and burnout.
We’re especially excited to announce three gifts from Bruce and Lynn Erfer, the Chisholm Foundation and corporate partner, Mehr & Associates.
The Erfers have given to Swedish and our nurses since 2018, when Bruce underwent surgery here to remove a cancerous mass from his jaw. “Until I received lifesaving treatment at Swedish, I had no idea that charitable support played such a big part in the hospital’s ability to provide outstanding care,” he says. That realization — as well as his gratitude — has inspired Lynn and him to give regularly, including a donation through their will. And just last week: a generous $40,000 gift to support our nurses.
Mehr & Associates’ co-owner, Krista Mehr, has an equally personal connection to Swedish. She still thinks of the nurses who cared for her mother at Swedish Issaquah. “The level of compassion and care my mother received from the nurses at Swedish Issaquah is something that I will always be grateful for,” Krista says. “I cannot imagine what they have experienced over the past few years, and yet they continue to show up and support our community every single day.” That’s why Mehr & Associates gave $5,000, becoming a corporate partner — and it’s why Krista made an appeal to all her contacts to give as well.
And finally, we’re grateful for the generous support of the Chisholm Foundation, which was proud to make a gift of $50,000 to ensure our nurses can build the skills they need for post-traumatic growth and healing.
You still have time to join these generous donors by supporting our nurses this Nurses Week. Swedish is a not-for-profit health care provider, and every dollar you give will go directly to programs that support our nurses. You’ll be there for our nurses who have done so much to be there for all of us.
