Providence Swedish has long been recognized for our leadership in adult medicine; at the same time, our pediatric specialty services have continued to offer equally robust — and often underrecognized — clinical resources for physicians and care teams throughout the Pacific Northwest.

As referral demands grow for complex pediatric conditions, Providence Swedish offers a comprehensive, subspecialty-driven model designed to support physicians, hospitalists, emergency rooms and advanced practice clinicians with timely access and coordinated and evidence-based care across a range of pediatric disciplines.

Our pediatric specialty services

Pediatric nephrology, including our stone and CAKUT clinics

Pediatric nephrology experts provide comprehensive evaluation and management of congenital and acquired renal disorders, including chronic kidney disease, nephrolithiasis and CAKUT (Congenital Anomalies of the Kidney and Urinary Tract). The program is distinguished by its integrated care pathways with urology and other specialties and its multidisciplinary approach to care, enabling precise diagnostic evaluation and individualized treatment strategies.

Pediatric urology, including our circumcision clinic

Our program offers surgical and nonsurgical care for a full spectrum of genitourinary conditions, from routine procedures — such as circumcision — to complex operative cases including robotic procedures. Providence Swedish differentiates our approach through streamlined procedural access, including close multidisciplinary coordination in the same clinic space with nephrology for children with complex urologic disease.

Pediatric orthopedic surgery

Pediatric orthopedic surgery specialists at Providence Swedish address musculoskeletal conditions ranging from sports injuries to congenital deformities and scoliosis. We emphasize minimally invasive surgical techniques and coordinated rehabilitation to support improved functional outcomes and faster recovery.

Pediatric general surgery

Our team provides comprehensive care for neonates, infants and children, including advanced minimally invasive procedures and management of complex surgical conditions. Providence Swedish surgeons prioritize close collaboration with our neonatology and pediatric subspecialists to optimize perioperative outcomes in our medically complex patients.

Pediatric endocrinology

These services support longitudinal, patient-centered management of metabolic endocrine conditions by integrating clinical care with nutritional and behavioral health care, that supports our whole-person approach to metabolic health.

Pediatric infectious diseases

The pediatric infectious diseases service provides expert consultation for complex infections, antimicrobial stewardship and care of immunocompromised patients, as well as congenital infections and infectious disease exposures related to pregnancy and delivery. Providence Swedish clinicians offer deep expertise in emerging pathogens and diagnostic challenges, serving as a key regional referral resource.

Cardiology

Our pediatric pulmonology service is once again open for referrals and provides care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory illnesses, from complex congenital anomalies to asthma care. The pulmonology team works closely with our other pediatric specialists, inpatient, and NICU clinicians to support newborn and pediatric patients, including our small baby unit.

Pediatric hospital medicine

Providence Swedish’s pediatric hospitalists support inpatient management of acutely ill children across medical and surgical services by emphasizing outcomes-focused clinical pathways, efficient care transitions and direct communication with referring providers to ensure continuity and collaborative care. Ambulatory clinicians get timely and closed-loop communication about the patients they refer and we have a team of attending physicians who are in-house 24/7, meaning kids get the care they need immediately.

Pediatric critical care medicine

Pediatric critical care provides advanced management of critically ill children requiring intensive monitoring and life-support therapies with support from real-time multidisciplinary collaboration and quality high-acuity care delivery.

Neonatal intensive care

Our Level IV NICU delivers specialized care for premature and medically fragile newborns, including advanced respiratory and neurodevelopmental support. Our expanded small baby unit offers a quiet, dark environment dedicated to acute stabilization and improving long-term developmental outcomes for our smallest and most vulnerable patients.

Pediatric gastroenterology

Providence Swedish eagerly anticipates the return of our pediatric gastroenterology team in the Fall, which will increase ability to care for children with complex GI conditions. Return of these services will also ensure full-spectrum care for our most complex patients with the addition of new multidisciplinary clinics to our region.

Pediatric tube feeding, aerodigestive and small baby unit follow-up clinic

These coordinated clinics will support children with complex, chronic conditions requiring longitudinal care with a model that emphasizes improved outcomes through integrated specialty collaboration and reduced care fragmentation.

Pediatric sleep medicine

Our program evaluates and treats sleep-disordered breathing and other complex sleep conditions with advanced diagnostic testing and interdisciplinary care planning.

Pediatric neurology, including our headache clinic and first seizure clinic

Pediatric neurology emphasizes early diagnosis supported by advanced neurodiagnostics and rapid-access evaluation for management of neurologic disorders, including specialized pathways for headache and first seizure presentations. We know how important it is to ensure rapid access for specialty consultation, especially for patients with potential neurologic conditions, and our team works to see patients within days, not weeks or months.

Pediatric therapy services (physical, occupational, and speech and language therapy)

Therapy services address developmental, rehabilitative and functional needs across pediatric populations with integrated therapy and medical and surgical care that supports comprehensive recovery and long-term function.

Pediatric sports medicine

Pediatric sports medicine focuses on injury prevention, diagnosis and return-to-play management for young athletes. The program emphasizes evidence-based rehabilitation and collaboration with orthopedic specialists to optimize safe return to activity.
