Providence Swedish recently took the spotlight in a special edition of KING5’s New Day Northwest, highlighting our exceptional pediatric specialty services. This one-hour program featured Providence Swedish pediatric doctors, nurses and specialists who deliver life-saving care to children daily.

Hosted by New Day’s Amity Addrisi, who shared her personal experiences as a mother and the specialty services her son received, the show provided valuable insights from experts in various pediatric fields including general surgery, orthopedics, sports medicine, pediatric therapy, and infectious diseases.

• Elizabeth Meade, M.D., pediatric medical director, touched on the unique pediatric specialties and highly trained doctors and nurses caring for from birth to age 18 and beyond.
• Jordan Orr, M.D., pediatric sports medicine specialist, shared how physical activities enhance cognitive function and emotional well-being in children. She was joined by Seattle Sounders FC player Obed Vargas. 
• Rob Weinsheimer, M.D., director of Swedish Pediatric Surgical Services, shared methods to make surgical experiences less intimidating for children, using child-friendly techniques and  environments designed to ease anxiety and fear. 
• Laurel Saliman, M.D., pediatric orthopedic surgeon, discussed ways to keep kids strong, active and pain free. Her former patient, Claire Banasky, also shared her experiences undergoing orthopedic surgery.
• Ashley Lankford, OTR/L, occupational therapist, highlighted the transformative impact of pediatric occupational therapy in enhancing the everyday lives of children with developmental, emotional or physical challenges. 
• Frank Bell, M.D., pediatric infectious disease specialist, talked effective strategies to protect children from infectious diseases, emphasizing prevention and the role of vaccinations.
