About the MS Center Art Show
The Multiple Sclerosis Center at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute is proud to present the 6th Annual MS Center Art Show. Over the past five years, the Art Show has welcomed creative works of all ability levels from those affected by MS in the Pacific Northwest. The purpose of this annual event is to:
- Enhance quality of life through art
- Raise community awareness about multiple sclerosis
- Provide an opportunity for individuals touched by MS to express themselves
- Offer a venue for artists to display, meet others in the community, and sell their art if desired
- Encourage individuals to thrive apart from their disease
About Multiple Sclerosis
Within Washington State, there are over 12,000 individuals with MS causing the Pacific Northwest to have one of the highest rates in the world. With the cause still unknown, a cure has yet to be found. MS affects the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves causing weakness, sensory changes, cognitive complications, and visual impairment among other symptoms. The average age of onset is 20-50 years old and 75% of those affected are female. Currently, medication can slow the course of the disease, but an answer and a cure await the MS population.
