After massive heart attack, ECMO saved Vivek's life

By the time Vivek Gupta arrived at Swedish, we had just one shot at saving his life.

After a massive heart attack at a company retreat, the Boston-based software engineer was clinging to life, as one organ after another started to fail.

Vivek’s only chance was ECMO, a therapy that could support his heart and lungs while they healed. We were one of only two hospitals in Washington state that could offer it.

More than two months after arriving in our emergency department, Vivek was finally well enough to return to Boston and to his family.

Watch Vivek's story to learn how our team at the John L. Locke Jr. Advanced Cardiac Support Program at the Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute saved his life.
