Congratulations to the Providence Swedish physician residency class of 2023
Our residency programs across Puget Sound train physicians in family medicine, rural medicine, dental, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery and foot-and-ankle surgery, among other specialties.
Today we celebrate 61 physician residency graduates from Providence Swedish’s Class of 2023. Training the next generation of physicians is part of our mission to the community. After medical or dental school, physicians receive up to five years of graduate medical education in our hospitals and clinics to prepare them for the next step in their careers.
“The training of physicians is essential to carry out the Providence vision of the health for a better world,” said Arooj Simmonds, M.D., chief medical officer at Providence Swedish. “These graduates have dedicated their lives to learning the art and science of medicine. We are grateful to have been a part of their education journey and have seen firsthand their dedication to caring for patients in our communities.”
Our residency programs across Puget Sound train physicians in family medicine, rural medicine, dental, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery and foot-and-ankle surgery, among other specialties. These doctors come to Puget Sound from across the country to gain experience by caring for diverse patient populations.
In fact, you may have received excellent care from a physician resident at a Providence Swedish campus as part of their on-the-job education. Residents are supervised by their attending physician who is responsible for patient care and the education of newer physicians.
After graduation, residents may begin practicing independently or begin a fellowship to further their education in a specialty area.
Join us in congratulating our Class of 2023 and welcoming those who plan to practice medicine in our communities.
As part of our commitment to the community, Providence Swedish contributed $55.3 million in 2022 toward health professions education and research, including funding of residency programs. Find out more about residencies and fellowships at Providence Swedish.
